About the Community Advisory Group
What is the role of Community Advisory Group members?
CAG members help shape the future of crisis care in Halton by sharing their experiences and ideas. Members join conversations, give feedback, and help make sure community voices are heard in decision-making.
CAG members are invited to participate in short, focused engagement sprints tied to specific questions, design challenges, or decisions within the Halton Crisis Continuum. Through these sprints, members contribute feedback that directly informs how crisis services are designed, improved, and delivered.
What are the benefits of joining the Community Advisory Group?
As a member, you will:
-
Contribute directly to improving crisis supports in Halton
-
Share your lived or living experience in a way that meaningfully shapes decisions
-
Connect with others who bring diverse community perspectives
-
Learn more about local crisis services and system change
-
Receive an honorarium to recognize your time and contributions
How will my input be used to inform the HCC?
Community Advisory Group input is gathered through time-limited sprints that are aligned with active work underway in the Halton Crisis Continuum.
Feedback and ideas from each sprint are summarized and shared with the relevant HCC working groups to inform real-time decisions, program design, and improvement efforts. This ensures community perspectives are connected to concrete actions.
CAG members may be invited to:
-
Participate in focused sprint sessions on specific topics
-
Provide feedback on draft tools, pathways, or program ideas
-
Join targeted discussions with project teams when community insight is most needed
How will the Community Advisory Group create an inclusive and welcoming space?
We are committed to creating a space that is safe, inclusive, and accessible for all members.
-
Meetings will primarily take place online, with in-person options when appropriate.
-
Members can participate in ways that fit their needs and schedules.
-
Meetings will be respectful of your experience and consider each member’s unique identify and wellbeing.
-
We welcome feedback to help us continuously improve accessibility and inclusion.
How much time are members required to contribute?
Participation is sprint-based, rather than ongoing.
Most sprints will involve 2–4 hours over a defined period (for example, over a few weeks). Members can choose which sprints to join based on interest, availability, and relevance to their experience.
How long will members be a part of the CAG?
The Community Advisory Group is expected to continue until 2027.
Members may participate in one or multiple sprints over time, depending on interest and project needs. There is no expectation of continuous or long-term monthly participation unless members choose to stay involved across multiple sprints.
About the Application
How will members be selected?
Anyone who applies and meets the basic eligibility criteria will be added to a Community Advisory Group roster.
Rather than selecting a single, fixed group, we are building an ongoing inventory of community members with different lived and living experiences, interests, and availability. This roster allows us to invite people to participate in specific, time-limited CAG sprints that align with their experience and interests.
Applications will be reviewed to:
-
Confirm eligibility
-
Understand areas of experience and interest
-
Support diversity of perspectives across the roster
Some applicants may be invited to a short phone or virtual conversation to help us better understand their interests or availability, but there is no competitive shortlisting process.
When will applicants be updated on the status of my application?
All applicants will receive an update once their application has been reviewed.
Rather than a single decision date, applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and applicants will be notified when they have been added to the CAG roster.
If I have technical issues with the application form, what should I do?
-
Please contact us at cag@boardwalk-group.com.
Do I need to live in Halton Region to participate?
-
Lived, worked, or caregiving experience connected to Halton Region is preferred, as the work focuses on crisis services in Halton.
-
During review, we will consider whether proximity to Halton is important for particular sprints (for example, for place-based or in-person engagement).
What happens if I am selected?
If you’re added to the roster, you’ll receive a welcome email with next steps.
Here’s what to expect:
-
Onboarding (rolling):
You’ll be invited to a brief orientation session where you’ll learn about the Halton Crisis Continuum, how CAG sprints work, and what participation can look like. You’ll also be able to share your preferences for availability, accessibility supports, and how you’d like to stay informed. -
Sprint invitations (as needed):
As specific CAG sprints are launched, roster members will be invited to participate based on topic relevance, interest, and availability. Participation is optional, and you can choose which sprints you join.
There is no requirement to participate continuously, and you may be invited to one or multiple sprints over time.
